At first I thought both characters were shallow and cliche but Ashworth does such a beautiful job of fleshing them out with their heartbreaking insecurities, uncertainties a Natalie is bored with her suitors and goes in search of a notorious thief named the Black Knight. At first I thought both characters were shallow and cliche but Ashworth does such a beautiful job of fleshing them out with their heartbreaking insecurities, uncertainties and unique personalities that I was in love by the end.
Their witty back and forth and slow seduction and romance is heartbreakingly beautiful. I can never resist an Ashworth book and I can’t recommend this one highly enough. May 19, Crista added it Ashwort This really had some awesome potential, but I couldn’t get ashworhh some pretty big challenges Why in the world would a woman want to go in search of a man she’s never met to offer herself to him in marriage Why in the world would a family not miss that their unmarried relative had disappeared without their knowledge?
Why in the world are we to assume that after one kiss with no follow-up that these two are stil Oh Bummer! Why in the world are we to assume that after one kiss with ashwprth follow-up that these two are still pining for one another. I really wish there had been more couple development I wish that the plot would’ve been more believable I wish I would’ve liked the heroine more I guess a talented author can rise above even a mediocre book I have high hopes for Winter Garden!
Oct 08, Jackie rated it it was ok. I daele reading, thinking that there must be some plot twist that would make all of the confusing plot elements come together in the end. But no, the plotting was just simply unbelievable, all the way through. Another one for the “too stupid to be believed” pile May 20, Greentea rated it liked it Shelves: I felt duped- in a good way.
They kept their secrets and motives that were resolved in the ending. Also, the heroine has a commendable personality that I think modern women are lacking.
Characters Nat I felt duped- in a good way. Characters Natalie was a twenty three year old lady who wanted to be married to the Black Knight. The Black Knight was a notorious thief in Europe, returning stolen items to their rightful owners. AKA she turned into a stalker.
She tracked ashwroth the past 2 years what the Black Knight was doing.
Jonathan was the second son of an Earl. Jonathan cannot look away at her great bosom. It was her best asset by the way. He always initiates the urge to kiss but Natalie tried as she might, she cannot pull back the feelings she has for him. There are many qualities Natalie has and I admire her for it. Men in those days marry women to bear their children and Natalie wanted more than being preggers. She wanted to marry a man who knows what she likes and does, someone who will reciprocate her feelings.
I love the fact that she guarded her heart. She knew it best that she would not give him the satisfaction of being intimate other than her husband. Yeah, she lost her virginity to him but at least she tried very hard.
She loved her family and she went to a great deal of showing it. She was keen and knew how to use Jonathan to her advantage. At first I thought that she was a stupid girl to be in love with a thief she never saw in her life but I was quite taken aback that she has other motives. Reading a lot of predictable historical romance got my senses turned off.
Even Jonathan was surprised that she has the guts to blackmail him. Thoughts to ponder Sure it was a great read but there is a missing piece in the story. Why would Jonathan like Natalie by just one kiss that happened years ago? In the prologue, they kissed in the masquerade ball and Natalie admitted she was in love with him.
And after that they have no contact at all. And another complain that I have, the characters need more flaws. I need more just to balance out the cuteness of the story. I think anyone will love the characters and the plot. Jun 15, Sharyn rated it liked it. I did enjoy this Victorian era romanced. Lots of historical references to the politics of France in which I found interesting. Also enjoyed the relationship between the hero and heroine.
Spies, thieves, politics and romance all wrapped up in a good story. A good book to while away a Sunday afternoon, which is exactly what I did.
